Currently, may favorite website is www.uniwatchblog.com – mainly because it’s nice to know that there are other people out there who are just as crazy about the look of sports as I am. While I love uniforms and am very appreciative of a nice set of stirrups, my true love is the design of playing surfaces.
I could spend hours talking/reading about the use of paint vs. stain on a basketball court. How a nice stain can bring out the pattern of the wood (see Texas A&M’s new court), while a poor use of paint can wash out the court (see UNC).
The design of football fields is also fascinating. Most universities have traditions for the field paint (see Tennessee’s endzone), but every year there seems to be an evolution of design. There is always something new, a little tweak in color usage or design size. I am interested to see how Arkansas State University’s field looks with their new mascot.
Summer is a time of baseball uniforms and trying to figure out what the Williams sisters will come up with next, so I have a little bit to occupy me as a I anxiously await the seasons of decorated grass and hardwood. But absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?
